Narrative Biography

About Me
I was born and raised in small-town Ohio. After high school I lived and studied in Columbus and Cleveland, earning my bachelor’s degree at The Ohio State University and my Master of Science in Nursing at Case Western Reserve University, also in Ohio. I’m now certified by and maintain membership in the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.

I moved here to Maui to be closer to my parents, who live here, and my brother and sister-in-law, who’ve been on the island for more than 20 years. Along with my three daughters, I love all aspects of being part of this close-knit community – and I’m thrilled that the Valley Isle is now my permanent home.

About My Practice
When I was about five years old, my father survived an electrical accident, which was traumatic for our whole family. Witnessing his frequent follow-up appointments, home nurse visits, and therapy sessions throughout my childhood instilled in me an affection and respect for medical professionals and the practice of medicine. It was natural for me to choose a health care career.

I’ve enjoyed working in the field of cardiology since my nursing school clinical rotations, and I still remember a few of the heart patients who were under my care at that time. My time as a cardiology nurse practitioner at The Ohio State University Medical Center is when I applied and expanded my field knowledge and experience.

My professional interests include coronary artery disease, smoking cessation, and aortic stenosis – a narrowing of heart valves that control blood flow.

To stay abreast of the most current medical research, I read the professional journal published by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and attend local and national educational conferences.

I appreciate Pacific Permanente Group’s approach to care, which considers the overall health of each patient rather than just treating an isolated disease. As a staff member I feel supported by my colleagues and co-workers, a feeling that transfers to the care I provide.

My approach to care is to always treat my patients as I’d want my friends and family members treated. I especially enjoy teaching them about their health issues and medications they’ve been prescribed.

How I Thrive
I love being a mother to my three daughters – keeps me very busy! My kids (and I) are very active in their dance and school activities. We love our Kihei community of friends and like to go to the pool, library, skating rink, and out for shave ice. I also enjoy reading, beach days, and stand-up paddelboarding. I read and meditate daily.
