Narrative Biography
About Me
I was born in China and spent my early childhood living in several different countries before my family settled in Toronto, Canada when I was seven. My parents were physicians, but as first-generation immigrants, they had to give up their medical careers after relocating to Canada.
I completed my undergraduate studies, internal medicine residency, and adult critical care medicine fellowship at the University of Toronto. I was honored to receive a Detweiler Travelling Fellowship from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada to pursue an advanced degree. In addition, I obtained a Global ICU Award from the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine for my work in supporting critical care education in Ethiopia. I’m board-certified in adult critical care medicine and internal medicine.
In 2022, my partner and I vacationed in Hawaii for the first time, and we were moved by the beauty of the islands and the warmth of the people we met. After emerging from the COVID-19 pandemic, we decided that we were ready for a new chapter. I now feel incredibly fortunate to call Maui home and I’m grateful to serve this community.

About My Practice
Growing up, I was strongly influenced by my parents’ stories and inspired by their work ethic. I briefly studied to be an engineer, hoping to use my analytical skills to make decisions that would benefit society; however, I switched paths to medicine to pursue my dream of directly helping improve people’s lives.
I was drawn to critical care because it allows me to care for patients facing a wide range of life-threatening illnesses and high-stakes situations. I work alongside a dedicated team of professionals to support patients and their loved ones during some of the most difficult times in their lives. I believe clear and compassionate communication is vital in helping patients find comfort and healing – it’s the foundation of the care I provide.
During the pandemic, I organized a virtual knowledge-sharing conference between intensive care groups at the University of Toronto and Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia. I’ve made presentations at international conferences and published research on topics such as critical care education in residency, critical care delivery in low-resource settings, and continuing professional development. I’m excited to pursue an advanced degree in bioethics to further my professional interests.
How I Thrive
I enjoy photography, good food, traveling, and outdoor activities such as gardening, tennis, snorkeling, and hikes with my dog, Marlow, and our friends. I believe in taking time off from work when needed, being mindful, practicing gratitude, and the importance of human connection.
