About Me
I grew up far from the ocean in Boise, Idaho, where I enjoyed skiing, fishing, hiking, and camping. I went to the College of Idaho for my bachelor’s in biology, and as a young man worked as a wilderness ranger and commercial fisher. I then returned to college as a pre-med student and went on to the University of Washington School of Medicine for my medical degree. I then did an internal medicine internship at the University of Washington and residency training at the Family Medicine Residency of Idaho. I’m certified in both emergency medicine and family practice.

My love of the ocean and natural beauty drew me to Maui, where my family and I had vacationed many times. Having practiced in a busy emergency department for most of my career, I welcomed the move to Kula, where I’d have the opportunity to spend more time with each patient and still be part of a more extensive system that provided additional resources.
About My Practice
An interest in science and a desire to contribute to people’s lives drew me to medicine. During my training I enjoyed just about everything and could imagine going into several specialties. Emergency medicine was appealing because of its variety, and the opportunity it offered to work with a range of specialists. This is summed up in the emergency medicine motto: “Anyone, anything, any time.” My special interest is wilderness medicine.
To keep up with the most up-to-date medical research, I subscribe to the journal of the American College of Emergency Physicians and am affiliated with the American Academy of Family Physicians and the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Additionally, I participate in ongoing continuing medical education and review diagnostic and therapeutic information using online clinical resources. More recently, I’ve lectured to nurses, residents, and emergency personnel.
Pacific Permanente Group has a reputation for delivering excellent, comprehensive care, and I’m delighted to be part of the team. I try to treat everyone with respect and compassion. I do my best to learn about my patient’s background, to create a comfortable space, and to help however I can.
How I Thrive
Being outside helps me stay fit. I enjoy biking, hiking, and going to the beach. Spending time with my wife is a top priority, and we look forward to our kids’ visits from the mainland. I also enjoy reading, writing, traveling, cooking, movies, and passing time with friends.
