Narrative Biography
About Me
I was born and raised in Switzerland, where my family has roots in several different cultures. That upbringing inspired a lifelong curiosity about people and the diverse experiences that shape them. I speak German, Swiss German, French, Latin, English, and a bit of Dari and my wife, who grew up in South America, has further broadened my appreciation for different cultures. Living in Hawaii has also deepened that perspective.
I attended high school in the Swiss canton of Solothurn and earned my medical degree from the University of Bern Faculty of Medicine. I then moved to the U.S. to complete my internship and residency at Johns Hopkins University and Sinai Hospital of Baltimore, where I served as chief resident, followed by a fellowship at Oregon Health & Science University. I’m board certified in cardiovascular disease, and I’m a member of the American College of Cardiology, American Medical Association and the Swiss Medical Association.

About My Practice
My passion for medicine grew from a deep sense of compassion for the people around me and a desire to make a meaningful difference in their lives. That purpose continues to guide my work as a physician today.
I enjoy the fast pace of cardiology, where making timely decisions in critical situations requires a deep understanding of each patient’s condition and the full range of treatment options. I’m excited by the amazing growth of technology in this field – in the clinic, in imaging, and in performing procedures. My special interests include medical education and dyslipidemia and issues related to high cholesterol.
I’ve long had an interest in nutrition. From the beginning of my training, I’ve studied the effects of diet on cardiovascular health. I’ve also given presentations and written about platelet activity, which can indicate a possible heart attack.
How I Thrive
I believe in working well and playing well. I like being out in nature, stargazing, biking, hiking, climbing, playing with my children, cooking, listening to music, watching movies, spending time with family and friends, and traveling.
