Narrative Biography
About Me
I was born in Honolulu and raised in Wailuku, Maui. During my college years studying gerontology, I volunteered at the Los Angeles County coroner’s office. While I was in medical school at the University of Southern California, I was exposed to the challenges involved in providing care for the underserved and uninsured in one of the largest and most diverse cities in the U.S. My interest in working with this population continued through my residency in primary care at the University of California, Davis Medical Center and still guides my practice today.
My grandparents were a major influence on my development. They imparted on me the importance of giving back to the community. I’m grateful for the love and caring they shared, and I feel very fortunate that I’ve been able to return home to Maui, where I strive to honor their wisdom and compassion.

About My Practice
Upon completion of my training, I practiced medicine in Guam for over a year as a representative of the National Health Service Corps. This provided me with invaluable experience working in a remote and extremely underserved region of the world.
The medical profession allows me to learn new things every day. In my specialty I’m fortunate to apply different facets of medicine in a wide range of settings. I’m particularly interested in Hansen’s Disease and HIV/AIDS.
My professional affiliations include being a fellow of the American College of Physicians, and I’m a National Health Service Corps scholar.
I stay current in internal medicine by reading professional journals, attending medical conferences, participating in continuing medical education programs, and consulting with my peers.
My philosophy of care is to listen, connect, understand, and serve. I enjoy “talking story” with my adult patients and getting to know them personally in addition to addressing their diagnoses and treatment plans. This allows me to better consider the whole person and not just the medical condition.
How I Thrive
When I’m away from work, I unwind and recharge by spending time with my family and my dogs. I’m also a fantasy football fanatic!
