Narrative Biography
About Me
I was born in the Bronx and grew up in Yonkers, New York. I participated in the 7-year dual-degree Sophie Davis Biomedical Education Program at the City University of New York School of Medicine and the State University of New York Downstate Health Sciences University.
I did my internship and residency in internal medicine at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and completed two fellowships – the first in pulmonary critical care at Mount Sinai Hospital and the second in advanced lung disease/transplant medicine at Duke University. To further pursue my interests in digital health, I earned a Master of Business Administration from Johns Hopkins Carey Business School while I was Medical Director of Lung Transplantation at the University of Maryland.
I’m board-certified in internal, pulmonary, and critical care medicine. I’ve been practicing advanced lung disease/lung transplantation for 15 years. I’ve actively supported the American Lung Association and plan to continue volunteering with organ donation organizations in the islands.
My father, the “Original Dr. Kim,” escaped his childhood as a Korean War refugee to become a practicing physician in the U.S. He mentored his three daughters (all doctors) and numerous medical students worldwide. He valued humility, resilience, and careful attention to medicine as a craft, firmly believing physicians should view themselves as servants and healers.

About My Practice
The example set by my father and other events in my life remind me that the comfort and healing we provide our patients is far more important than the medical advice we provide.
My professional interests include chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), interstitial lung disease, asthma, rare lung disease, and lung transplant. I look forward to furthering my involvement in digital health initiatives here on Maui.
How I Thrive
I take walks in nature, encouraged by my husband, who deeply loves the outdoors. My favorite walks, however, are through outlet malls with my credit card (to his chagrin). I intend to pick up gardening and farming (let the challenge begin). I enjoy the arts, karaoke, listening to live music at oceanfront restaurants/bars, sharing experiences with family and friends, and traveling worldwide.
