Narrative Biography

About Me
I was born and raised in the East Bay area, did my undergraduate studies at the University of Arizona, and went to the University of Southern California for my medical degree. I did an internship and residency in psychiatry at the University of California, San Francisco, where I was chief resident. After that, I completed a child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at the University of California, Los Angeles. Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, I received the honor of being named Physician of the Year by the Healthcare Association of Hawaii in 2024. I’m also grateful to be designated a Maui Health Foundation Guardian Angel.

My upbringing in a family of educators inspired me to be a lifelong learner, stay curious and thoughtful, prioritize community involvement, and advocate for what’s right. One of our go-to family phrases was to “dream with eyes wide open.”

While working as a traveling doctor, I got the opportunity to come to Maui. My family and I loved living here, and we decided to stay.

About My Practice
Medicine was a natural career choice because of my interest in biology and anatomy, as well as my desire to serve others. At first, I thought of becoming a pediatrician. However, after training in the various specialties, I became fascinated by child and adult behavior, emotions, and relationships, particularly as they relate to a person’s culture and experience.

In my practice, I also lead groups that explore how to support mind and mood through meditation, setting healthy goals, and practicing self-compassion and equanimity. My clinical focus includes trauma-related conditions, child and adolescent mental health, and mood disorders. Helping patients navigate and overcome the challenges in life is truly fulfilling.

How I Thrive
I firmly believe in the importance of self-care. I maintain my physical fitness by tending to my garden, practicing yoga, hiking, cycling, jogging, paddling, and enjoying the beach. I also enjoy spending time with my family, learning dances from my kids, reading, playing the piano, experimenting with new recipes, crocheting, and listening to podcasts and jazz. Volunteering with the Maui Humane Society, the Hawaii Land Trust, and Feed My Sheep allows me to give back to my community, a value that’s deeply ingrained in my personal and professional life.
