Narrative Biography

About Me

Born and raised on Maui, I graduated from H.P. Baldwin High School before attending the University of Hawaii at Manoa for my undergraduate degree and the University of Hawaii, John A. Burns School of Medicine. I was honored to complete my internship and residency as part of the inaugural class of the Primary Care Pathway of the University of Hawaii Internal Medicine Residency Program, which gave me a front-row view of the health care needs across our islands. After training, I returned home to Maui to care for the community that helped shape me.

I grew up in a tight-knit family and community and was deeply influenced by my grandfather. Spending summers working alongside him fixing washing machines and helping with other handiwork taught me the value of kindness, compassion, and service.

I’m board certified in internal medicine, serve as an assistant professor at JABSOM, and am the director of graduate medical education on Maui. I’m also a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society, the Gold Humanism Honor Society, and the American College of Physicians.

About My Practice

When I was in school, I had a mentor who changed the way I saw medicine. Practicing in rural Oahu, he showed me what it truly means for a physician to know their patients as whole people. He understood their histories, their families, their cultural backgrounds, their values, and the unique personalities that shaped their lives. With each visit, he would “talk story,” celebrating past accomplishments, navigating present challenges, and helping patients plan for a healthier future.

That experience left a lasting imprint on me. As a professor of medicine, one of my greatest goals is to expand medical education to the neighbor islands and inspire the next generation of physicians to embrace primary care – to see its profound rewards, its deep relationships, and its vital role in the health of our communities.

How I Thrive

To take good care of others, I’ve learned that I need balance in my own life. For me, that means carving out time to unwind with my family and reconnect with the ocean I fell in love with growing up. I still enjoy bodyboarding and fishing whenever I get the chance – they help keep me grounded and energized for the work I do.
