About Me
I was born and raised in Saigon, Vietnam. After the Vietnam War, my family resettled in California. I completed my undergraduate studies at the University of the Pacific in Stockton before earning my medical degree from the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. I went on to complete my internship in Detroit, my residency in Ann Arbor, and my fellowship training at the University of Michigan Health System, where I also pursued advanced studies in translational research. I’m board certified in gastroenterology and internal medicine and am an active member of the American Society of Gastroenterology, the American Gastroenterological Association, and the American College of Gastroenterology.
My mother profoundly shaped the person and physician I am today. Growing up in a time when girls were often denied educational opportunities, she devoted herself to uplifting those who had even less. Her compassion, generosity, and unwavering encouragement inspired me to pursue medicine – a lifelong commitment to service and to improving the lives of others.
Living and working in Hawaii had long been a personal dream. I was drawn to the natural beauty, multicultural communities, and deep rooted traditions of healing and connection, as well as the prevalence of gastrointestinal conditions that affect Asian and Pacific Islander populations. As my daughter began her own college journey, I felt a meaningful shift – a moment that allowed me to embrace the next chapter of my life and career in a place that had always felt like home in my heart.

About My Practice
My interest in gastroenterology began in 1991, when I watched my grandmother suffer from gastric cancer. Through her experience, I learned how gastric cancer and related conditions disproportionately affect Asian populations and carry significant public health implications. I was also fascinated by the digestive system, and the essential role nutrition plays in overall health. During my training, I was fortunate to be mentored by a brilliant and kind gastroenterologist and hepatologist who inspired me to pursue this specialty.
My presentations and research have focused on Helicobacter pylori and hepatitis. My other professional interests include endoscopy, general gastrointestinal disease, nutrition, obesity, fatty liver, and lifestyle medicine.
How I Thrive
I find balance through meditation, yoga, fitness classes, and spending time in nature. Long walks on the beach, swimming, and snorkeling in the ocean help keep me healthy physically, mentally, and emotionally, allowing me to be a better physician and model well-being for my patients. I hope to build on my windsurfing experience by learning wing foiling and resuming cycling. I love traveling and keeping close ties with family and friends, especially my daughter and my siblings in Ann Arbor and the Pacific Northwest.
